About Us
J.T. Smart's Players Academy in Fresno, California, was founded by a young man who discovered golf as a way to stay active. His passion drives us in everything we do, helping others enjoy the game of golf no matter who they are or what their story is. We focus on helping you believe in you own ability and develop your skills in a way that speaks to your individual capabilities.
Our owner and founder, JT Smart, was stricken by a brain tumor at only 18-months old. After his second surgery, the tumor had become large enough to damage his body's right-side motor skills and some of his left-brain capacities. He didn't give up however, in junior high JT needed something to help him stay active and be part of a team.
Golf became his physical and social outlet, earning him trophies and championship wins during his junior, high school and college career. He used his skills to volunteer, and work at local country clubs and teaching junior camps, eventually leading him closer to the path of teaching. He turned professional in 2013 when he passed the USGTF certification course. He succesfull passed the P.G.A. players ability test (PAT) scoring 4 under par after 36 holes of competion earning medalist status. He continues to give back and enjoys working with young people as part of the C.U.S.D. coaching staff. He continues to stay on the cutting edge of teaching his passion, he is a Vector Pro Green Reading Instructor, and is constantly attending teaching clinics to bring home the latest in the golf industry. His greatest joy is seeing his students excel in the game he so loves and wants you to know that with his instruction he can help you find your inner golfer, no matter what your limitations might be that this sport is for people of all skill levels and capacities.
